At Manhattan Building Company, we are builders and developers of our own portfolio of premium apartments, condominiums and commercial spaces specifically in Hoboken and Jersey City, New Jersey. We believe that projects begin with the right acquisition price. This primary step requires knowledge of all project costs from acquisition through occupancy. Proper planning in pre-construction requires effective communication, intense project coordination and the close cooperation of the development team.
At the beginning of every project, our construction professionals join our architects, engineers, marketing staff and individual designers to form a project team. This team functions to exchange ideas, brainstorm through obstacles and execute design strategies. The use of a team structure allows constant revision of planning and reevaluation through final product completion.
From the earliest site analysis to the choice of building systems, materials and pricing, we innovate and create options responsive to our market and construction cost analysis. Our management approach includes control of all contracts and personnel. To the best of our ability we anticipate problems and manage the solutions from start to finish with our project team approach. We encourage an “open book” of active participation by all individuals and organizations involved in the process.

The Manhattan Building Company, located in Jersey City, New Jersey was founded (with many subsidiaries) in February 1994, as an integrated group of companies with a common purpose. Sanford Weiss the companies principal, has been active in Hoboken since 1978.
To develop, finance, build, sell and rent, multi-family housing units in this growth corridor near Manhattan.
This vertical integration gives us the unique advantage of specific experience in many disciplines and total control of the project from start to finish.

ABOUT OUR CEO, Sanford N. Weiss
Mr. Weiss brings over 35 years of experience in the development, construction and management industry in Hudson County, covering the entire spectrum of new construction from high and mid-rise luxury residential communities to the very complicated alteration and reconstruction of historic landmark townhomes and buildings.
In all, Mr. Weiss has successfully led development of projects totaling more than 1,400 condominium and apartment homes. His latest vision, a new community in an historic area of Jersey City dubbed Soho West will boast over 2000 luxury apartment homes, retail and commercial space, restaurants, schools and entertainment centers. The first two Soho West projects are already completed or under construction.
As the owner and founder of The Manhattan Building Company in 1994, Mr. Weiss focused on multi-family residential communities. In 2003 he sold the company’s assets to the leading national home-building company Toll Brothers and, with their Chairman Robert Toll, created Toll’s urban brand with the formation of Toll’s City Living division. During his tenure with Toll Brothers Mr. Weiss served as City Living’s President, responsible for leadership of the entire division, and successfully completed the new company’s first project, the highly successful Sky Club Condominiums in Hoboken.
Upon a planned departure from Toll Brothers to pursue other development interests, Mr. Weiss formed White Diamonds Properties LLC, launching the development of the remarkable luxury communities The Cliffs Lofts in Jersey City, NJ and The Observer Lofts in Hoboken, NJ.
Mr. Weiss’s leadership responsibilities as CEO and Chief Developer of the reformed Manhattan Building Company include guiding the company, its development, architecture, construction and property management divisions, and executive team through the next decade of planned growth, including continued development and completion of the Soho West community, and other development projects on the company’s horizon.
ABOUT OUR COO, Louis Mont
Mr. Mont’s experience spans more than thirty five years of real estate development, construction and management, overseeing many multifamily high rise, single family subdivisions, industrial and commercial projects. Mr. Mont has, and continues to manage hundreds of millions of dollars in private investments and loans. Many banks, investment and development firms and contracting companies have sought his expertise in structuring and reorganizing operations and properties.
Mr. Mont was named one of the “Top 50 People Impacting New Jersey’s Economic Future” by the Business Journal of New Jersey, served as Chairman of the Planning Board of Washington Township, NJ, and is a past or current member of the NJ Builders Association, NJ Federation of Planning Officials, Urban Land Institute and National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Mr. Mont is applying his expertise at Manhattan Building Company and its divisions as executive member of our leadership team, overseeing many company operations, amongst which include:
General management of the Accounting, Property Management and Construction departments.
Modernizing operations and growth and staffing of the company’s property management and construction divisions, and the company’s information management systems.
Day-to-day operations oversight of construction scheduling and activities, and facilitating the coordination of our in-house architecture and construction divisions with our CEO’s vision and long-term development strategy.
At the Cast Iron Lofts, we combined the space and quality of the historic buildings of Soho, with the modern amenities of new construction. High speed elevators, 24-hour concierge, private van to the PATH, and on-site parking are just a few of the features awaiting the residents that fill all 155 units.

SUGAR HOUSE LOFTS
The Sugar House is a historic civil war era warehouse on the banks of the Morris Canal transformed into Jersey City’s most luxurious condo loft building with 65 modern, condominium lofts featuring 10-foot high ceilings, stainless steel kitchens with Viking appliances and master suites with walk-in closets, imported Italian tile baths with whirlpool tubs and spa showers.
The Hoboken Grande is an urban chic luxury high-rise on a flat plate slab concrete design with beautifully landscaped private gardens, parking, health club, and spectacular panoramic views of the New York City skyline and the surrounding areas. The building was constructed in 2002. Located at 610 Newark Street in Hoboken, the residential condominium highrise contains 11 floors and 67 units.

Skyline began as a concept in late 1984 to meet the growing demand for Hoboken Real Estate. The job conceptually grew out of sales prices exceeding the cost of land and new construction, which was the answer to a generally poor housing stock in Hoboken. Skyline was the 1st new construction market rate non-subsidized high rise built in the City of Hoboken in decades.
